*ntel should call this the P4 Emergency Edition (in response to the Athlon 64 kicking their ass). Or P4 Expensive Edition.

Basically they're admitting that it was a "benchmark/review-only" chip, aren't they?

I just hope that price of normal P4 would drop after the release of P4EE So that I can (finally) afford a P4 2.4!!!

Regarding the stupid ugly case they used to demo the P4EE... very strange! Considering Intel has been actively supporting/sponsoring a lot of the best case modders!

Apparently the P4EE will not lower prices of the high end "normal" P4's. The P4EE will go for a whopping

          $925 (USD)

At least that's what I got from the article in the Inquirer

Funny how I can get a dual core Athlon 64, motherboard, and a gig of DDR for the price of that Pee4 chip.

                its a paper launch lol

Athlon 64 3200+ (754 PGA) is already on sale at my local computer store. (for ~700 canadian, which is not bad!)

IMO, if you plan to get a A64 FX, don't do it yet. today's FX line is 940PGA, which is the exact same core as the Opteron, and is probably why they must use ecc registered memory. I am guessing AMD needs dual DDR to show they are the performance king, but san diago is not ready right now (and they cannot delay the chip any longer... besides, i think they picked the right day, they can avoid Prescott threads). Again the FX is more or less also a paper launch. The real thing should be the 939 Athlon 64 FX.

If you are planing on an Athlon 64, either get the 754 clawhammer, or wait for the 939 clawhammer. the 940 fx as a gaming chip will be outdated very soon. besides, I bet the 939 will be cheaper to build, because I think the design of 940 needs a 6 layer mobo, but the 939 needs only 4. And of course 939 won't need registered ram...

I think the 64 FX is very similar to the Socket 423 P4. It gets replaced very soon, after the 478 P4 was released!

Yes, and the 939 pin version will also be quite a lot faster, due to reduced latency. BTW, the A64s scale VERY VERY well.
