Weird PC behavior!!!!!!!!!

Hi Guys,

Something very strange is going on here that I want your help on.

When ever I access any file on one particular drive the memory usage shoots all the way to 1.03 GB and the system becomes extremely slow obviously because I only have 512MB on board.

Now either the drive itself is bad or something really fishy is going on here.

My system is an Asus P4PE with a 2.4Ghz P4 512MB on board, all my drives are DMA in the hardware properties.

Note that this drive is a 30 GB, so its a bit old however I have another one which is the same and it is fine.

only thing i can think off the top of my head is there may be a file system glitch. if its old (and particulary if it still happens to be a fat file system) if something is not quite right I've seen it do some pretty weird things.

Run a file system scan/checkdisk and see if it finds any faults.

Well shiver me timbers lad!

A simple scan disk repaired the disk and now things are back to normal!

Try to disable indexing service from computer management.
