  • Computers demand password on home LAN to acess shares

    Setup:

LevelOne Router, Firewall enabled, DHCP enabled

    Workstation 1: XP pro
    Workstation 2: Win2k (PII 333)
    Workstation 3: Win98 (P 166)

    They connect to internet normally.

I enabled DHCP on them and I had them all join same workgroup, all users are passwordless.

I tried setting them up as part of business networ or home network in Netork Identification wizard, but when I try to acess shares from one machine on another machine, it would demand password to connect to IP$.

    Where did I go wrong?

For me to make XP Pro shares to work I had to create user accounts for all users with identical passwords on all three machines on my home network for file and printer sharing to work

do you log in with the same login / password on all the machines?
I have found that windows 98 will not be able to access XP unless you use a password on login with it ( leaving the password blank is no good)
