    ARGH!

So the last time I redid my computer (months ago), I recall having a major nightmare getting EAC and ASPI to play nice. Right now, when I run EAC, it has NO idea there's a disc in my drive - which makes it difficult to rip audio, yeah?

Problem is I don't remember what I did to fix it last time. THIS time I've tried a dozen different versions of ASPI, ForceASPI, ASPIFix... nothing helps. I've removed and redetected my drives, with no luck. I'm using the latest EAC, but the one before this is no better. ARGH!

    ARGH!

    ARGH!

I fixed it. Turns out the "latest" ASPI from Adaptec (4.71.2) is disliked by my system. But then again so is the old standby used by Force ASPI (4.60).

The one that works is 4.71, at least in my system. Bleah!

Just load PlexTools 2.7 and you'll get perfect audio copying without all the fuss.

nah. EAC is the only way to go for perfect audio copying. hands down.

as far as ASPI not liking your system... doesn't suprise me at all. i go with the in box drivers in XP because they acctually work.

Don't use ASPI. EAC don't need it.

in the last plexmanager suite I tried, the readme mentioned that the DAE code used was licenced from the author of EAC.

William, so the readme says. But on MY system at least, it does - and a specific version at that. Or is there some option within EAC to disable it and use the inbuilt drivers?

No, I found the option in EAC that lets you pick "adaptec ASPI, proprietary ASPI, or windows xp builtin" for drivers. D'oh!

Well then , that would be why PlexTools rips CD's so perfectly Except you get so many more tools with PlexTools that you do with EAC.

Out of curiosity, what does the latest Plextools do?

EAC does a lot of stuff.

Tons of stuff. I'm not on a computer with it installed right now, but from what I remember:

                            -Burn CD-R/RW, and DVD R/RW
-Extract audio to WAV, MP3 (using Windows MP3 CODEC), LAME MP3 if you download a DLL (can't remember which one, it's int he read me), Monkey audio (loseless CODEC) and OGG.
-Set spin speeds for Plextor and a few other drives.
                            -Set cycle down time.
-Tells you all sorts of nifty info about your burner, including firmware version, etc.

                            And some other stuff...

I'll pop it open at work and write some for stuff.

all that stuff is in EAC... and more... and its probably far more flexible...
