Freeware I don't know... Cumulus, ThumbsPlus... Maybe even IrfanView Thumbnails, though that's not very user friendly.

I don't really need something special, I simply want to browse the pictures in a folder, no need for thumbnails or such.
I can write one myself (it's pretty easy), but I don't want to waste precioussssss time...Sat on a pile of deads, I enjoy my oysters.

So, "Baby", what do you mean by "browsing pictures in a folder, no need for thumbnails"? Why not use Windows Explorer? Do you mean you want to have some kind of slide show of the pictures in a folder (with manual advance/reverse)? Then IrfanView really is what you want (explore the full screen options, I really like viewing my digital photos resampled to screen resolution, because they'd be way too big at their own res to view comfortably).

ACDSee used to be good. Stopped using after version 3. It became too obtrusive and generally a pain in the arse. Now I use the bulit in picture thingy in XP or the one in office2k3[size=1]D3/\/7YCR4CK3R
