I see, well that isn't good. Glad I didn't upgrade, besides, my system is running fine. Wouldn't want to scrap it now.

I always run 1 version of chipset drivers behind the latest one. Gives me time to make sure its stable and let other people get hosed first, lol

        People, stay away from VIA!!!!!!!!!

They have proven over and over again trying to develope fast and reliable chipsets and have failed miserably each and every time.

        Sheesh!

I think several versions of the vias are really stable - e.g. the version that is coming with the sp1 for WinXP. I had never problems with these (in fact did you even now that sp1 has vias incorporated and uses them generally when a via chipset is detected?).

Currently I'm using the 4.43 which are thought to be the best for the old chipsets (until KT333?). Thats at least the general opinion at vias forums.

I'm sure it's a wise decision to wait say 1 week before upgrading, since via pulls them quite quickly if they're misbehaving.

Normally Via ignore problems if they can. I was quite surprised they pulled them (Not from the ftp site though) so quickly. I see a lot of people asking for help got stomped on by the Via fanboys over at Via areana.

I'm seldom at viarena, so ok I take my tip back...I'm glad that the only crashes I experience are caused by a buggy firewall kernel routine (kerio) :-((.

funny that...now that I don't have a PC with some VIA chipset or another I find a lot more time to do things like: not fixing my computer, not pulling my hairs, not pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL...

Suggested new VIA 4-in-1 Driver Names:

Shoemaker-Levy 9: Crashed into Jupiter spectacularly. Draw your own conclusions.

Io: Another unstable moon. Bathed in hard radiation, suffering from severe Jovian tidal forces, and containing many noxious chemical compounds. Whenever Galileo even got near that moon, it nearly always went into Safe Mode. This is not unlike most VIA-based systems already.

Acme: Watch Any Warner Brothers Coyote/Roadrunner Cartoon and you'll know what I mean.
