Ah yes, intel forever.

Pentium division bugs forever.
Rambus timing issues forever.
Defective Memory Translation Hubs forever.

Oh, I'm sorry, you were saying?

I have to say that VIA always sucked, they have been produce crappy chipsets and drivers to fix their chipsets since day one and it looks like nothing has changed.

Err most of those have been fixed. Has Via fud under cover agent been exposed here. Rambus is redundant anyway so why fix it.

Yes Intel has made mistakes but Via continues too use the same mistake for years.

I've NEVER had ANY problems with Intel chipsets. Not one. Not to say there aren't any problems, but I only bought an AMD cpu once, and it was HELL. Tried 2 different mobos and all I got were spontaneous reboots and BSODs. To whoever said I can't ignore AMD, you just watch me.

Listen AMD chips are good very good budget chips. Via sucks big time mainly to thier attitude. However you can get good chipsets elsehwere. Remember you're talking to a guy who had his hard drive wiped out without any soundblaster or dual drives due to the 686b bug.

I still don't see the point in buying AMD, unless money is an issue. I'd sooner save my money and get a much more stable system. I'm not much of a fanboy; I'll buy whatever is the most stable, and that seems to be Intel at the moment. Haven't had one problem with my P4 2.66/DDR combo.

I am amazed that VIA is still in business. They've sucked for years and continue to suck, yet they're still in business. Eeek. Only went that VIA route once. Its the kind of mistake you only have to make once.

LIke I said if Via management changed thier viewpoint they could havea good chipset. Fix the bugs then give the user cheap latest innovations.

If anyone has an Intel chipset with PCI64/66 slots they'd know that for years it never worked correctly, and still has latency problems. We have various high end test boards at work and the AMD chipsets actually implement PCI64/66 correctly, while Intel's latest revision _finally_ does 64bit transfers correctly, albiet with higher latency.

Anyway bck on topic, yes its Via's attitude that is the problem. If they'd actually admit they f'ed up and fix it, then they woudl have better products. They sounds like Intel when they screw up however.

The difference between VIA and the others is mainly that the others eventually fix things.

I'd like to see how you managed to make your AMD systems so unstable.

I have 3 of them here, and they are all perfectly stable. One of my AMD systems here does contain a VIA chipset, but it only has the older 686A southbridge, which doesn't suffer as many problems as the 686B southbridge did.

Some people did have problems not very many but a few did. 686b varied from motherboard too motherboard. In very bad boards you could get corruption with one hard drive, video card and nothing else installed.

Only had one via board myself, Abit KT7A and I was stung, yet have had 5+ intel systems with no problems, may not be the best performance for my buck but as far as I am concerned stability has always been fantastic and cost has never been that great and issue to me.

I still have my P3 450 (only at 504) running whilst the AMD 1Ghz I purchased to replace it is completely dead, although that was more then likely the above board.

dbdg,

Maybe you should take this as a sign NOT to buy Abit VIA boards.

The 686A did not cause corruption problems, but the PCI on the KT133 chipset was screwed up enough that I could not use my SBlive and a pci hard drive controller without causing serious crackling.

I have seen my fair share of intel based boards die too, so I wouldn't be too smug about it.
