Shared memory chugs no doubt on eof the reasons why many of todays cards come with 128mb of ram plus it's a selling point.

I can still make my 9800 Pro chug at 1280 x 1240. Have everything set to max in the control panel and within the game UT2k3 and load Irondeity and bingo or chuggo. It's a pity as the rest of the maps fly.

Heh, according to benches a 9800SE is SLOWER than a 9600xt

I'm getting a 9600xt since I can't get my hands on a 9700 in the right price range and 9800 (any version) is damn expensive for that % of speed diff

AT low res the 9600XT is fine (1024*768), start getting up to high res and the 9700/9800 leave them behind by more then a small percentage.

My mate has my old rig, P4 2.53 and he just bought a 256MB 9600XT, it is a fine card but struggles at 1280*960 in ut etc, if you have a large monitor and like to play at 1280*960 + the extra bucks are well worth it.

I haven't played that map in a while, i'll give it a go on my rig, what about plunge etc, I think that is what it is called?

Do you also have Physics on high or do you leave that at Normal.

Well, I NEVER play at higher res than 1024*768

My 17inch is best at that rez

the only reason for me to switch up to higher would be if I got a 19 inch and even than I would probably keep using 1027*768

The 9800SE is clocked at only 300MHz GPu and 290MHz RAM. Even the RAM is slower than the 9600...

                Yes, I know that
                that was NOT the point
The point was that Ati is pulling a fast one with that card
You and I know that it should be avoided, but do Joe Awerage know?

Everthing maxed out. Seems one hell of a map I've noticed others complaining about it so say no more really.

On the countrary its a GOOD card for the price it goes for

The radeon 9600xt I just got today will probably only be slightly faster than my old msi GF4 TI4200 in those games I already have but if I ever get a DX9 game it will be fun

And it will also enable me to give one of my old vidcards to my brother in xmas present instead of the voodoo3 he's got now

EDIT: Edited to make the post easier to understand for the mentally challenged

                        Technoid: ~2000 SEK for a Sapphire 9600XT at komplett.se
                        3000 SEK for a Club3D 9800 Pro at datorbutiken.com

You can probably get hold of better prices, but those are the best I've found.

That is the one I'm getting but I'm getting it through work

                          same price

But that IS not "regular" price

                          Komplet.se's prices are "completely crazy"

Yup. A bit like calling it 9800MX...

Ugg, don't get me started with the shit graphics card makers do to make their cards cheap.

Like use 64bit buses instead of 128bit (wtf), or using SDR instead of DDR, or using lower clock speeds then the normal cards.

It really gets up my nose (since I accidently brought a geforce 4mx se, which only had a 64bit bus and performed like poo compared to what I expected)
