  • What new, cheap(!), trouble-free socket A board?

See title. My ECS K7S5A has swollen caps, and I don't want to wait until they explode and spit acid on my legs (the case is open), so I'm looking for a new board.

It has to be cheap, stable and trouble-free. I don't need any overclocking options, nor do I need integrated sound, graphics (would get it if it was cheap and faster than my Kyro II), or legacy connections. Integratred LAN isn't needed, but not unwelcome, FireWire would be nice but isn't needed either.

    Any help is greatly appreciated

Anything that doesn't have Via on it since you wanted to be trouble free.

How old is it? I got 2 years warranty on the K7S5A I bought.

There's an ASROCK with a SiS 758 on it, SATA RAID etc. etc. for $54 at New Egg.

                ASUS A7N8X-X

Nforce2, 400mhz fsb support, about 10-20% faster then the SiS735, intergrated lan, intergrated 6ch sound (very good qual for onboard) Should be very cheap ($60-$70 US) Q-fan (the hardware reduces fan speed if CPU is cool), CPU thermal protection (shuts down CPU before it overheats, and according to Asus reacts fast enough to even catch incorrect heatsink installation)

                Highly recommended board.

                          1. AGP implementation screwed so that many non-nVidia display boards fall back to PCI mode. Been there since day one and even after they've been notified of this bug many times they haven't fixed it.

                          2. its hypertransport NB/SB interconnect is only 800 mb/s while SiS's is 1000 mb/s and climbing with better bandwidth-sharing features for the PCI slots.

I have not had a problem with the Nforce 2, other than the MSI board is very picky about the memory it uses.
