Yeah, this works pretty well.... especially for those porn movies that you want to make sure what they are before they finish... Hey, they FORCE me to do it, I live in Utah, you can't BUY it here......

@|Mehen|: Asus DVD Software is a "branded" version of PowerDVD. They are basically the same thing.

Therefore, PowerDVD all the way (came with my Asus card)

          Therefore it r0xXoR and 1337

              I use powerdvd 4.0

It has always worked adequately for me ... so I have had no need to upgrade.

I use WinDVD 5 Plat. Great player! Best video render engine I have ever seen.

I agree, we have a porn czar, but no porn, what's up with that? And low-quality alcohol to boot! What is a guy supposed to do? No good beer and softcore porn only?

Well, I've been running PowerDVD 5 now for a while, and it seems the stutter I was having with it last time I tried using it is now gone (though last night I was noticing that when I watched a movie, my second and third monitors were having this weird white line flash across the top of the screens. (the first monitor having DVDMax displaying the movie, and the second monitor I full-screened... kind of a weird way to see what movies actually chop off the sides when you're watching a widescreen movie converted to fullscreen....)

                  Leech

P.S. I also just discovered that with WinDVD 5 if you minimize it and you are using DVDMax to output it to TV or another monitor, the video stops playing, but the movie is still going (you can hear the sound), but with PowerDVD 5 you can happily minimize it and it runs fine )

Yeah, and if you play an SVCD with it you'll get green blops on the righthand side of the screen every 30 seconds or so for the entire movie.

Sucks donkey balls? Compared to... ?

DVD? I think you won't see a huge difference on the average TV, which only displays PERHAPS the 480x480 that SVCD offers anyway.

Compared to DVD, of course - but even compared to well done DivX or XVid encodes.

And no, I don't have an "average" TV, so the difference is clearly visible....

There's also the Cinemaster engine with the Elsa or Matrox front end.

Not bad, but I've since moved to WinDVD. Both players work fine on my old P2-266.

What got me to switch was better quality video and timestretching. I love playing 2 hours of special features in 30 minutes.

                              Two WinDVD questions:
                              - How do you set deinterlacing to "force weave" permanently? Leaving it on auto produces horizontal lines on my G200.
                              - How do you get rid of the default skin? It'd be better with standard windows widgets.

DVD Genie should be able to help you with the first problem.
