  • Creative to Creative switch...

    ... that apparently went well.
Finally replaced the Live 5.1 with a Audigy 2 player bulk (retail was too expensive).
I uninstalled the old drivers, ran driver cleaner, removed the old card and booted into safe mode where I ran driver cleaner again, before installing the new card and drivers.

UT2003 and Elite Force 2 seem to work without problems, the ASIO plugin for Winamp works as well... knocks on wood for now.

I'm just waiting for the new catalyst and maybe other excuses to reinstall the OS

Try version 4.50 of the VIA Hyperion 4in1 drivers!
According to the latest official figures, 43% of all statistics are totally worthless...

Admiral did it right, I was too eager and borked my whole system when I got my Audigy 2 Platinum. Oh well, it's working now (fingers crossed)

Not that they don't have their share of problems when they want to.

Yuppers....haven't heard a snap, crackle or pop, or had a bus contention problem, since going to SiS based mainboards.

What is ASIO in winamp good for when only listening to music?

from what I understand of it, it bypasses the kmixer which is supposed to have a bad influence on sound quality.

With the Audigy 2 it's working with Creative's own drivers, no need for kx drivers.
Though beside eating into the CPU (8-10% on my system), I don't hear that much of a difference compared to the DirectSound plugin.
