Event viewer error on a clients pc.

Audiosrv time out error 3000 millisecs
Shellhdware time out error 3000 millisecs
plus another one.

So the machine hangs after logging on then after a while starts working. The user rang up complaing becuase there wasn't any sound. Yes yellow explemination marks next too soundcard.

Cured that by re-installing the driver then I noticed other items not working. Last time I had that it was mcafee 7.0 and the Novell client not getting on.
Uninstalled both of those the network still wasn't happy pissed around for ages before noticing these three remaining errors in the logs. There had been loads before.

For once technet gave me the articles. Goodie I thought I found a fix. The error was caused by sysprep being run with the incorrect pnp option. Fine how do fix it??

Run sysprep without this option.

I've got a stand alone machine I don't give a toss about sysprep I want to fix this machine what resolution is that you useless wankers.

So no solution from Microshaft.

Tried re-installing service pack1a.

Still the same.

Tried re-installing all the audio drivers.

Still the same getting madder.

Downloaded the latest Intel inf from Asus web site.

Bingo sound, network works everything is fine.

Up your Microshaft for wasting my time with a useless qxxxx article.

Q articles are updated on a regular basis.
The idea is to get problems into the KB as quickly as possible and then they can work on a solution.
This saves people reporting the same problem over and over again - they already know about it.
Once a fix is found the Q article will be updated and I would expect a patch released.

Thats if you can find them in the first place. Took me years to find the solution the Winsock fatal error. Several pages to work through and even then it only works 8 of 10 and your often just as quick re-installing windoze.

You actually thought that Microsoft could write decent tech support articles???

Not sure if Byock ever posted his hilarity on here, but he actually had MS's Tech support call HIM up to solve a problem with Windows 2003 server and Exchange 2003.
