  • HELP! Need MB and proc. recomendations for AGP 2x G400Max

Becky's MB died and I need to get her up and running.
I ordered an Asrock MB & athlon then realised that her AGP 2x G400 Max might not work in it because of the AGP 2x-8x thing.
Money is a consideration as we just spent $1600 on a laptop for her.
She uses the Dual Head feature and I would prefer not to buy a vid card also.

Her old processor is a slot-1 P3 so that has got to go.

Or possibly the Max will work in a 4x-8x only AGP slot?

Also, I would prefer SIS over VIA.

    Thanks,
    Chuck

    Nevermind.
I got lazy and added a G450 to the order.
The fan on the Max was about to go out again anyway....

    Thanks,

        Nope

The problem is that the early G400s follow the AGP spec.
        WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!?

It seems that most 1.5 volt AGP 4x/8x MBs don't and so they get at cross purposes with the Max's voltage detection and vice versa.
At least that's the way I understand it.

        As it happens I ordered a K7-S8X R3 and a G450 to go with.
She doesn't care about 3D anyway.
