  • if you have norton antivirus & with the latest definitions your pc slows down

After updating to the January 7th or 8th virus definitions, your computer slows down and Microsoft Word and Excel will not start

Seems fine here with XP Pro SP1, NAV2k2, and Office XP.

    [update]

I stand corrected, it is acting funky... NAV takes forever to load and exit, causing a delay when Windows shuts down. Word and Excel are working fine though.

Symantec made Norton Antivirus even slower than it already was? they've really outdone themselves now!

I have NAV 2000, W2K, and Office XP. No slow down or strange behavior in any way.

Awesome! Thanks for the link. It seems to effect slower boxes (like mine) even more.

It's inconsistant, it did it a few times when I updated, then started working normal. Then after I read the article it started doing it again.

I've been experiencing serious slow down these days...True opening Word takes forever..Right-clicking a folder after starting up windows takes at least 10 seconds to opop up menu...there must be something to do with Norton since turning it off increases performance trenmendously but not sure where was my last update of the Virus definition.

Applying the Workaround does not help at all.
I will try to remove Norton to see if it will help.

Same here, only it's causing a delay when windows starts.

When you own your own business you only have to work half a day. You can do anything you want with the other twelve hours.
