Popupcop: It looks like you're visiting a Microsoft update site. This site will install a lot of ActiveX controls, and automatically download a lot of software. To prevent you from having to say "yes" or "no" to a dozen popups, would you like to mark this entire site as "allowed"?
Popupcop: Hey, would you like to install "dirty porn downloader" from "scamsoft_assmonkeys"?
Me: No, don't ask again.
Popupcop: {silence}
IE: {no popups, no installs}
Me: Oooh! Photoshop CS!

See how this goes? I know the Google toolbar works pretty well, but I prefer to have support for something like this, and popupcop manages to keep the annoyance factor to a bare minimum. Plus, on a single toolbar pulldown, I can enable/disable instantly:
popups
scripts
images
image animation
background sounds
flash
flash autoplay
java applets
activex controls
text marquees
script timers
mouse tricks
eyelets
useless warning dialogues
cookies
meta refresh
automatic resizing
AND it adds in a bunch of stuff that it usually found in IE addons, such as "view source for all frames", "stop all animations", "play all flash", etc. etc.

I'm the least you could do, oh yeah
If only life were as easy as you
I would still get screwed
