Help, is my monitor going to kill me?

My IIyama Vision Master Pro 400. Is making popping noises, . and occasionally the whol screen seems to go large ( kinda goes darker and zooms in,) and then goes back, i hear a cracking noise then.

Is it dangerous or is my screen on the way out?

Otherwise it's a great monitor

only running 1152*864 at 72hz .

My old KDS monitor started doing the same thing, it just got worse and worse until we had it RMA'ed. Unless the screen gets EXTREMELY bright it's not gonna be putting out X-rays, so I doubt there's any health problems other than the stress from having to replace it.

Unless that is there are capacitors leaking and looking to explode or you have a fly-back transformer that may suffer a similar fate - both of which I have experienced on monitors.

It is a good idea to attend to it immediately though as bad capacitor hassles can usually be cured really easily and economically. If the fly-back is to blame its usually uneconomical on a older monitor given the current prices of new monitors.

Apparently the CRT is doing something called arcing. They say it could be on it's way out..

Might be time to get one of those new fangled TFT's the colour can't be that much worse than a good CRT can it?

On good LCDs, the color is good to excellent. Unfortunately, it's only above average for the 17" 16ms panels. If you NEED accurate color reproduction, EIZO have LCDs with built-in hardware calibration and 10 bit lookup tables.
