IMO the AMD is still the most reliable chipset for AMD platform (my main box currently has AMD chipset).

Well, I'm not planning to upgrade soon (TM?), but in time my idea was to buy a cheaper dual Xeon mainboard, put my current 2.4 GHz Xeons on that one (as a secondary system), and upgrade on my current mainboard. With the evolution as it is now unfolding, this might not be a good way to think...

Higher clockspeed... Hmmyes, if the mainboard supports the 800 MHz FSB, and I don't know if this can be done by means of a firmware update... Or will there be a Nocona on 533 FSB ?
        Any thoughts ?

Rumor is that there will be 533fsb Noconas up to at least 3.4ghz. (Maybe 3.8)

yes, new chips on FSB533. I don't know if it's a really smart move to put a yet faster chip on a lower speed FSB, but for the ones looking for an incrementally faster PC. Don't forget that the power requirements might be too high for your current hardware...(PSU excluded)

It would be sweet if Intel were forced to say for example.

Pentium 4 with AMD64 technology as part of the agreement.

Samsung/ RAMBUS made a good choice for the regular punters when it named its memory XDR. It does sound better than DDR.

                  Hmm, that would be nice...

Kurt: Yes, we'll have to wait to see what the mainboard manufacturers say...

I do know for my board (ASUS P4PE) there is a Bios update that allows the 800mhz FSB. So it seems to me that you could do it through firmware...

Edit: Here's the link for that... http://www.asus.com/support/cpusupport/fsb800.aspx

Just a quick question pertaining to that... Does that mean I could actually overclock my 3.06ghz 533FSB to the 800mhz FSB? Sure looks like it to me... I do indeed have DDR400 memory, though it's the cheap stuff.... I really do need to get better memory...

do you honestly believe that your 3.06 will be able to run at over 4.5 GHz ?

If Supermicro releases an updated BIOS, it will probably be safe to use the new chips. I doubt they will, unless their old mobos are up to snuff electrically-wise. Could be both...

Thought you Xeon guys would like this little blurb from Barrett:

Intel will roll out BIOS and other system support during the course of the year ready for the Nocona launch and for the Prescott chip for workstations.
