  • which mobile XP to go for?

i have decided to postpone a major upgrade till the year end, so am going to buy a mobile athlon xp to replace my thoroughbred A 2200+. I am looking for maximum overclocking potential and can get, 2400, 2500,2600 and 2800. Which one woold be most likely to give me the best overclock?many thanks.

The 2500, definitely. Mobile 2500's can almost ALWAYS hit 3200.

is it more likely that a 2500 higher than a 2800 then? im after greatest MHz after overclocking, price is pretty similar across them all.

just discovered that the 2600 and 2800 are in fact 1.65V and not 1.45V. Ordering up a 2500 now, hopefully will be able to run at 2.2-2.4Ghz, want it mainly though because it is unlocked and the bodged unlocking of my 2200 suddenly decided to do something very strange and re lock itself with some really high multipliers, so my memory which was previously running at 195Mhz is now back down to 133Mhz. Thanks for input Gurm.

My mobile 2500+ is running at 2.4ghz (12x200) at the moment. The thermaltake silent boost is holding it back... temps going into the 60s.

what voltage are you putting across it to get that speed?

              My ordinary 2500+ is doing 2300MHz (11.5x200) at 1.775v.

              Good luck with your oc.

1.825 - it fails the Prime95 torture test after a couple hours. I don't want to bump the voltage up any further until I can drop those temps.

just out of interest what are the clocks of the bartons relative to their PR ratings? i have found a few bits of contradictory information, sokme places say the 333Mhz xp3000 is clocked the same as the 400Mhz XP3200 at 2.15Ghz. Anyone know what the clocks are for 2800 thouroughbred, 2800 barton(333) 3000 barton and 3200 barton?

i got the xp2400+ as i had my old asus a7v.. by some quirk of fate i ended up getting the gigabyte 7n400pro... should have got the barton2500+, with the gigabyte board i have now i could be in overclockers' heaven...
ah well i am not much of an overclocker...

well, got it this morning, but hit a snag, im running it on an asus A7v333, but can only get multipliers up to 12.5, currently running at 2083Mhz without problems, but thats 167x12.5. Is there any way of getting a higher multiplier selection on this board? im running with the latest bios, but im sure that the multiplier selection is inbuilt to the chip, can push my memory to 195 ish, but thats maxed out then

Some boards can do hi and lo range straight off (eg my a7n8x) , but some others need to have a L bridge modified to select the hi or lo range, there is also the "wire trick" inwhich you get some fine wire and wind around 2 particular pins on the cpu before inserting itinto the socket.

eg above 12.5 is hi and below is lo..

can you post a link to some instructions on the L bridge mod, ive had a look around on google but cant find anything related to modding the the xp - m for higher multipliers.
