  • Virtual Desktop like old Powerdesk

My old Matrox 220's powerdesk used to have a virtual desktop option where I could set it to a high resolution, but leave my monitor resolution lower. Eg. Set to 1600x1200 but my screen would be 800x600 and I could scroll around the bigger desktop by moving the mouse. I really liked that feature.
Every time I search for such an app, all I can find are the virtual desktops that are complete desktops but many of them. So as of yet I haven't found anything that does what I want. Can anyone help me out?

For HTPC. It is often hard to see well on a TV. I use the magnification tool at times but it is clumbersome. It is also very cool for some graphics apps.
I should have mentioned that I am no longer using a Matrox card (that why I dropped it in GH/S) I am looking for an app that will run on any card.

I believe it depends on the OS you're running. What flavor of Windows are you trying to do this on?
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

Any windows would do. XP prefered.
Triplus Winspace does what I want, and a bag of chips, but $40 USD is not in my budget for what used to be a throw in app 6 odd years ago.

Not on my HTPC. I can't believe such a simple Win app isn't around. I must have searched through at least 20 odd virtual desktop programs. Ugh!
