I find it interesting they don't say how much "raw" material goes into making a Automobile.
Hell, even the clothes on your back and the shoes on your feet requires a LOT of resources when looked at from a raw materials standpoint.
Unless you are living in a teepee wearing buckskins and moccasins, the base technology and raw materials used to support our society is staggering.--Insert something here--

Look in the gallery. http://www.thevospad.com/gallery.html
See, white!
One thing about LEDs, it would be damn easy to put on a bunch, and change the color of the room according to what you turn on.Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. The "white" LEDs (generally UV LEDs with a phosphoric transforming coating) are pretty nice.Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

I won't get into how much space/energy Buffalo, Deer, Elk, Moose or Caribou need to survive: that is heading way off topic. Suffice it to say that Buffalo takes the prize. And Remember, there were once millions of Buffalo. One day there will be again, but it won't be in my lifetime.
However, one thing the Vegans often overlook is what goes into producing Vegan dietary supplements...their infrastructure requirements are very high.
Unless you're a vegan that likes the look of "death warmed over" (and some waaaaay Left Vegans) you will have to take dietary supplements to obtain some types of nutrients that an omnivorous person would otherwise take for granted.
Even "Green" vehicles (ULEVs) are absolutely horrible as far as the amount of raw materials, and energy expended to produce them. The batteries used in them are a witches' brew of toxic chemicals and heavy metals. (Back in 1992, I was working at the Phoenix International Raceway during the Electric Vehicle Race; I forget the name of it now but I think it was a 200 mile race. One of the contestant's cars had a battery internally short and explode. The Battery used Bromine as one of it's reactants...not good. Toxic Orange smoke pouring from the unit and a fire that couldn't be extinguished. It took them a week to clean up the site afterward.)Hey, Donny! Go outside and check out what actually makes your electric meter spin.. turn on your typical lights and TV and check it, and then turn on your electric clothes dryer and look. No other normal thing sucks that much juice.
Whoops.. guess ovens do, but we have a gas oven. Also, an air conditioner or electric water heater run a lot more than the dryer, so I suppose the cumulative is much greater.
We use gas for our water heater, oven, and central heating.Last edited by KvHagedorn; 14 March 2004, 14:51.
