Yep, it doesn't support any higher than 1024x768. In fact - since LCD:s are fixed resolution - it ONLY supports 1024x768, all lower resolutions are scaled (interpolated) to 1024x768, which makes them look more or less messy. And since higher resolutions than 1024x768 can't be reproduced on your monitor (without losing pixel data), ATi drivers use panning instead.

i think that if you used the newer generation of LCD's you would be quite suprised at the results.

I picked up 2 Viewsonic VP171b's for my new system (it goes nicely with it ) and they are quite impressive. ghosting is almost non-existant (it is unnoticable in the games I have played so far), the colors are bright and vibrant (although they could be off, i have not bothered to calibrate them), the picture is sharper and much cleaner than pretty much any analog monitor i have seen. viewing angle is still not as good, but from < 4' away from the LCD's you don't notice the color shift. blacks appear to be quite nice (although in a darkened room you can see color distortions because of the backlight).

DGhost argghh.... dont mention that monitor.. That is the model what i would like own right now
its just out of my budget or need (got a good CRT still working well - ah well still havent decide to create a need for the LCD yet )

PS : Do you know viewsonic is selling a 3-LCD monitor stand.
btw if only the viewsonic VP191p is as fast as the VP171p, i would be very tempted

yeah. i knew they were selling stands for multiple monitors. i have to admit, getting a third one is so damn tempting. they are really, really nice LCD's.

the VP191 series looked nice and are reasonably priced, but like you said... they lack the lower pixel reponse time... i didn't see any 19" lcd's that had anything near it... it seems that for a quality LCD you either go 17" or 21"

anyways... i'll try not to mention the VP171b's again :P
