Gabe is now confirming that new footage and information about halflife2 will come out during E3 and that the game will be released this summer. With D3 and HL2 it looks to be a great summer for games

BTW, I got the information from teh official Valve thread in the forums.

I'm not particulary looking forward to either, only towards new engines.

Oh, I'm definitely looking forward to HL2. HL1 redefined what an FPS could be, helped make the genre worthwhile.

Now if I can just get the wife to stop buying crap for the house so I can afford an upgrade so I can play one of those two games...

just stumbled over this post from the now resigning founder of planethalflife.com. Sounds like he is seriously pissed.

              http://www.forumplanet.com/planethal...49&tid=1352802

Now, I could go on and on, talking about Steam, all the screw-ups with Counter-Strike: Condition Zero (I mean, JESUS, how do you declare a game GOLD, say it's FINISHED, and then not ship it until NEARLY SIX MONTHS LATER?), how Valve has messed up their relationships with Ritual, Gearbox, Vivendi (do you think Vivendi is a big fan of Steam?), and ATI... I could point out all the things Valve said they'd do but didn't, like releasing the HL2 benchmark or the SDK. I could whine on and on about how maddening it is to get flooded by mails from people complaining about how people can't play Half-Life anymore thanks to Steam or how Valve's customer support is non-existent. But the bottom line is this: I am not a fan of Valve anymore. I don't believe a damn thing they say and I'm sick of their bullshit.
              .......
              .......
Plus, Valve has gone over my head a couple of times and interfered (or attempted to interfere) with the content of this site, which I think is pretty sad. Forum posts of mine have been deleted on their orders and I've been forced to edit news posts because Valve didn't care for the information or opinions I was sharing. I'm sure they'll complain about this post and attempt to get it yanked, but I don't care.

That's too bad, Fragmaster did a good job. I'm still excited for HL2, but I have to agree, Valve isn't the same company it used to be when dealing with the community outside modmakers.

                    Most disappointing part for me:
I do know that content has been cut from the game in an attempt to get it to ship sooner.

They probably got too complacent at the success and money HL1 brought in a screwed around with HL2 so much they never got anything really solid done with it. It's called John Romero Syndrome.

Hopefully the content will be shipped out as a patch after release. Still disappointing.

A patch? Are you kidding? They'll sell it to you as an add-on.

It wouldn't be the first time someone shipped a game that you can't finish, but it would be the first time a game stopped in the middle (unless you count Frozen Throne).

Why do you say FT stopped in the middle?

Because there's that Orc hero where they're going to release missions for him. That is, they weren't ready when FT went gold.
