Actually, this is the kind of thing that drivers would be the best solution. It doesn't look like the Windows drivers will do it. The mga Linux drivers will, though.

Yes there is a way, themes. They wont replace all the program icons but generally you can find one that does a pretty good job of it. Like: http://www.customize.org/details/26530

Ever heard of it? It's like an entire WinXP skin, they make icons and all. I don't know if there is a gray theme, I'm sure there is. Only problem is, you better have a lot of memory, sucks it up like a...well it takes a lot (not that much, but even with 512 megs on my notebook, running this program, including all the mem XP takes, it was quite slow). I believe the site is www.windowblinds.net. Worth checking out.

um I think u can use coloreal for that, or a program called powerstrip. I believe"have not tried it" that it can do it.

WinXP doesn't actually natively support grayscale from what I've heard/seen. I think you would need a special driver to do rbg triplicate for 'true grey' or a greyscale monitor and use normal true color.

stylexp and get a greyscale theme, or there is a file that allows you to make your own themes, but not sure it is legal
