Is there an adapter or wire that can split an 8 wire RJ45 connection into two rj11?

Note that, for RJ-11, RED/GREEN are one pair, and BLACK/YELLOW are another pair.

It's probably not the best thing to connect the RJ-11 pairs to non-paired wires in the CAT-5 wiring.

It really does not matter how you wire the first one as long as the second one is reversed. THis is just a special purpose adapter.

It's strange that it works.

The telephone equipment that plugs into the RJ11 jacks probably does need a wire swap, but the pairs for RJ11 are red/green and black/yellow. You are connecting (on jack 1) the blue twisted pair to half of the R/G pair, and half of the B/Y pair. It would be better if you used this:

Adapter1 Jack1:
Black - Blue
Red - Green
Green - Green White
Yellow - Blue White

Adapter2 Jack1:
Black - Blue White
Red - Green White
Green - Green
Yellow - Blue

(and similar for the second jack pair)

You still do the reversal (which I'm not sure I understand, but hey - it works), but each line is on a separate color pair. Much less confusing if a wire breaks or comes loose.

I would agree that it is easier to remeber that way, but when I started thinking about this I realized I did not have to know what each wire was so did not bother. I will learn it though. I need to learn some basic wiring and soldering as well.

I almost did not do the reversal, but drew everything out for a billonth time and realized that when tracing the paths through everything and comparing it to just a plain rj11 cable that it had to be done.

Yeah - I think I remember now - everything in RJ-11 land is a crossover. The cables, any in-line couplers, everything. (add 1 cable and 1 in-line coupler, and you have 2 reversals - voila, the same as before!)

RJ11 is straight through. If you hold the ends of a wire next to each other they look mirrored. With RJ45 the plugs look the same due to the crossover.

Any RJ11 wire, coupler or otherwise is straight through. With RJ45 if both ends are male or both ends are female there is a crossover. If one end is male and one is female it has to be straight through.
