indeed, he seemed to imply that. oh well, i'll just go give my Athlon 64 3200+ some luvin and marvel at how well she does..."And yet, after spending 20+ years trying to evolve the user interface into something better, what's the most powerful improvement Apple was able to make? They finally put a god damned shell back in." -jwz

Athlon 64 3200+ ... wait, he's going to do video processing... on his HTPC... lol
then I'd think P4-E.<TABLE BGCOLOR=Red><TR><TD><Font-weight="+1"><font COLOR=Black>The world just changed, Sep. 11, 2001</font></Font-weight></TR></TD></TABLE>

Bit strange about Orangelo's post, a64 are supposed to be very smooth, I guess the streaming stuff in p4's (and maybe HT) help matters.
But I would be *VERY* interested to know what motherboard and memory he(and the other guy) were using.
An nforce 150 mobo would explaina bit of the problem.
But currently P4 does look like the cpu for ffdshow, but I wonder what will happens when an amd 64 optimised version shows up

Got all the HW for my HTPC put together except I'm still jockeying around memory trying to get the right stuff. First batch was a Fry's loaner which they got back tonight. The memory being sent out to me turns out to be too tall. Its Corsair TwinX1024-4000 PRO which is 1.75" including xmas tree lights. I was in too much of a rush trying to get the order out before week end and I forgot to follow up on checking the height for clearance. These HTPC boxes are quite cramped so everything's got to be mapped out well with the right components for air flow. My bottom 5 1/4" drive sits directly above the memory and 1.25" tall memory is the limit of what my case will accept. I'm refusing delivery of the PRO memory and getting the less tricked out non-PRO version which is just as fast but minus the lights and upgraded finned aluminum heatspreader. I didn't want the LEDs anyway as I was worried I wouldn't be able to turn them off (not good for an HTPC). The box (whose been named "Kubrick") is ready for an install except I'm fighting a stop error at the moment. I thought it might have been the Fry's Corsair TwinX PC3200 memory that I "borrowed" but I now get a stop with another stick I borrowed. Got some things to try still so back at it ...<TABLE BGCOLOR=Red><TR><TD><Font-weight="+1"><font COLOR=Black>The world just changed, Sep. 11, 2001</font></Font-weight></TR></TD></TABLE>
