  • Quality vs. Resolution

I have just had a go on FarCry. Wow what a game!!!

I can play it at 1024x768 with all settings to the max, or at a higher resolution with settings to medium.

What do you prefer. Higer res, or better graphics?

The Welsh support two teams when it comes to rugby. Wales of course, and anyone else playing England

I voted for the second option, but it depends on the game, and what the lower resolution is...

But 1024x768 seems high enough to view most items, and the details to maximum adds to the experience. Higher resolutions with lower detail can be usefull in strategy-type games (IMO).

How about 800x600, almost everything set to lowest? (And that's in Tribes 2, and I STILL get stuttering!)

Well I like playing at 1024x768, but try to run at 1600x1200 due to my LCD display.

FarCry ran pretty good considering my system, so I'll hopefully be able to get another year or two out of my current system before I upgrade.

1024x768 with my P on a 19" for 3d games. or sometimes that x 3. Total Annihilation I run as high at 1280x960. Desktop is 3x1280x960.

I prefer resolution...but it's great that even after two years I can still play most games in 1024 w/FAA

I would go the lower one, becasue if you go higher you lose all the good eye candy.. water/parrots...etc

But it really depends on the game, but Farcry is defintley one you want al the "pretty's" on for.

erm .. i thought as a matrox user lower resolutions means 1024x768 and not 800x600 (8x6 looks a bit too block for my taste)
i use 1152x864 for normal usage and usually play at 1280x960

edit : but then 12x9 is good enough for me to play the games i play (mostly RPGs with NOLF thrown in once in a while)

To be honest I never really give much thought to it. Most times I let the game decide for me. If I HAVE to choose I usually pick 800X600, 32bit color. And I never bother fooling around with the detail settings etc. Eye candy is all fine, but that only lasts me about 5 minutes. After that, once the game is rolling I hardly ever notice.
If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is "God is crying." And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is "Probably because of something you did."

I have a crappy video card so I can't get those high resolutions with max quality, I can hardly get it to run half decent with crap quality, that's partly cause the quality IS crap.

                      Boo GeForce2.
