  • Another breakthrough by Michael Robertson!

Now, I know that Apple has been copied by a lot of IT companies out there at one time or another, but this is ridiculous-he's created a fugly iTunes clone and actually SELLS it for 20$!!

This is the exact type of shit that got him sued & screwed by Microsoft-if there's one company that I hope gets taken to the cleaners, it's his...originality doesn't really last in the IT world, but he could at least keep his damn mouth shut instead of thinking himself some kind of crusader and bashing all the big companies' practices.

He does nothing more/less than M$ has a thousand times over and you damn him for it?

    Interesting

MS had done this a thousand times over but they don't exactly advocate the "power to the (l)users" crap...every company does some pretty bad stuff to get an edge, but for God's sake, at least they keep their mouths shut. Normally they're tied up somewhere else. Oops shouldn't have said that.

So tell me, where can I buy iTunes for Linux? Or do you think it should be illegal to make and sell software that mimics other software for a different platform?

No it isn't. Microsoft sued him because of the name "Lindows", not because the product looked like MS Windows. If he had called it lTunes, or iTones, or maybe even iSongs, then maybe you'd have a point. But, he didn't, so you don't.

I think it's wrong to both clone and put a price on iTunes...And why would one want iTunes for Linux anyway? iTunes is just a regular MP3 player with Library capabilities and the interface is meant to look good on MacOS X.

But they didn't. It's not a clone. It's a piece of software that works like a similar piece of software for a completely different and incompatible platform.

For the same reason one would want it for Mac OS.

Maybe you should tell that to Apple, so that they can withdraw their iTunes for Windows. After all, there were already hundreds of MP3 players for Windows before iTunes was available.

*cough cough* why not just install Rythmbox? It'll do EVERYTHING that Lsongs will do, except has a nicer interface (well, in my opinion, since I prefer GTK over QT) and is FREE ('apt-get install rythmbox' for those fortunate enough to use debian.) The only thing I can see that Rythmbox doesn't support that this thing does, is burning to a CD. I'm pretty sure that's in the pipeline though. But the streaming and I think even the ripping of CD's is supported. Internet Radio works great on it too!

I always thought iTunes was something where you could purchase MP3's through the net, the website doesn't say that Lsongs can do that.

Edit: Yes, just checked, it'll "Import" from CD's. So what's so fantastic about LSongs?
                      Wah! Wah!

I actually prefer Rhythmbox over iTunes. The way iTunes must have files in the media library in specific directories is stupid. Only nice thing about iTunes is that the interface is smaller. I have to have Rhythmbox maximized for it to be useable.
