Steve Jobs said there won't be a G5 Powerbook for quite a while. How does the G4 compare with the AMD64 mobile CPU and the Centrino?

Hey, let's hope he doesn't use the IE ;-))
@X-Caliber: I agree with Kurt performance wise. However if you like to work ~4-5h without the search for a power plug, an apple might be interesting.
The Centrinos are great cpus and offer slightly worse battery life but offer maybe better performance.
Cheers, Hannes
PS: @Kurt: maybe I go to the Roskilde festival and hunt you down in Brussels...let's see if we can sort that like real men *broaahhh* ;-))

Well I needed a notebook for work, and I have chosen the 14" ibook with 1.2ghz G4.
Why? I get a 60gb hdd, wifi installed, all the normal stuff that goes with it. good OS.
as for speed, well its a laptop, it's for work, as long as eclipse, jbuilder et al work, that is enough. I'm not playing games on it.
as mentioned above, battery life is good, design is nice. OSX has a fantastic UI, and the reality is, bang for buck, there realy isn't any difference with the ibook compared to a reasonable quality laptop.
Of course I could have tried to reserect one of the cheap Dell laptops we have sitting in a pile, all with dead screens, faulty this, faulty that...Juu nin to iro

the iBook has a resolution of 1024x768 - that's really hard to work with. The 15" powerbook max's out at 1152x864 - which really isn't much better.ASUS P2B-DS REV 1.06 D03 w/ DUAL 1.4GHZ Tualatins; Matrox Parhelia; M-Audio Delta 410

yeah, but you see more of each text file on the screen with a higher resolution. I am a scientist, and I run Matlab/Mathematica all day.ASUS P2B-DS REV 1.06 D03 w/ DUAL 1.4GHZ Tualatins; Matrox Parhelia; M-Audio Delta 410

anyway, I will eventually get a powerbook because I really like the OS - but the resolution is something I am not happy about.ASUS P2B-DS REV 1.06 D03 w/ DUAL 1.4GHZ Tualatins; Matrox Parhelia; M-Audio Delta 410

actually i'll end up docking it, there is also a firmware hack that lets you span an ibooks screen like a powerbook with an external monitor (and change the res on external as well)Juu nin to iro

that's interesting, do you have link?
I have been thinking about getting an ibook instead of a powerbook, since they are roughly 2/3 the price.ASUS P2B-DS REV 1.06 D03 w/ DUAL 1.4GHZ Tualatins; Matrox Parhelia; M-Audio Delta 410

There's no difference whatsoever.
You can do that on any OS.
What you're looking for is a secured *website*. Nothing to do with a PC or a Mac...
