As a result of this thread, I decided to give Miranda another try. Don't
know why I didn't like it before: basic interface is simple, but with a
    lot of extensions.

I use ICQ/MSN, sometimes yahoo for video.

English doesn't borrow from other languages. It follows them down dark alleys, knocks them over, and goes through their pockets for loose grammar.

As for protocols, I use ICQ (I still log in, but it's mostly a relic from the times long gone when it was popular here), Gadu - Gadu (the most popular IM here - 1/4 of all people in Poland use it), Jabber (yes Ribbit, I use Jabber - it's the second or third most popular IM here), Tlen (the word means "oxygen", it's second or third most popular IM, based on Jabber but unfortunatelly it doesn't communicate with all Jabber servers :/ ) and IRC.
As for clients...well, I have everything in Miranda , although you can find me using original GG client, but with few neat hacks/plugins (normally GG client is so featureless that you can call it spartan - but it means it's easy to use for normal poeple...that's why ICQ isn't popular here anymore); oh, and also sometimes HydraIRC or mIRC with NoName script.

ICQ only... Never had the need to try something different although with recent versions ICQ became so bloated that I'm considering alternatives...
Also, I use ICQ2Go at work as it works in Java...
