  • Post your Firefox annoyances/bugs here

Figured it'd be nice to start a thread about Firefox annoyances and bugs to discuss out in the open. Then maybe organize said complaints and submit them somewhere. I'll start.

-If you click and open a link in a new tab, and it cannot resolve the host, no URL will appear in the address bar. So you can't go back later and hit "Enter" or "Go" to try again. Instead you have a useless, blank tab.

-The google bar. It's just not as good as the IE one. And yeah, you can get that 3rd party one, but then it takes up a whole bar.

-Downloading. Even if you set it to remember a preference, it still screws it up half the time, and it sometimes opens a blank tab along with it.

-Bookmarks - Let's face it. The way its done is just years behind IE. Drag and drop, anyone? Having to use the manager is annoying.

I have more. They'll come to mind later.

Why can't you just go to the bookmarks and click on a link and it opens a new tab automatically rather than right clicking and telling it to do it.

Drag and drop for Bookmarks works here (0.8 0.9).

As for google bar - I can choose between following search engines in search bar:
      - Google
      - Najdi.si
      - Slowwwenia.com
      - Matkurja.com
      - Gov.si (Slovenian get installed by default because my locale is set to slovenian)
      - IMDB.com
      - dictionary.reference.com
      - dict.leo.org (german-english dictionary)
      - astalavista (cracks, serials)

You can install engines from here.

      That pwns.

Ahh, drag and drop works for bookmarks, but not for its folders.

          another annoyance:

-Animated GIFs. Often they're severly mis timed. Usually too fast.

I really dislike not being able to save a shortcut to a web-page, with minimal effort, to the desktop Other than that and the extra blank download window, I'm fine with the browser.

Dictionary search is cool as hell. I've actually wanted exactly that for quite some time.

If you've got a link to the page, just left-click and drag it.

the fact that Control-O opens a dialog box that allows you to open local files and does not allow you to navigate webpages. interesting sidenote: if you use control-o in IE and type in an address, it does not show up in the address bars typed history.

What's the problem? Ctrl-O is supposed to be for files. Ctrl-L is for web pages.

@TP: You can open bookmarks as new tabs by middle-clicking on them. Also, if you middle-click a bookmark folder, it opens all bookmarks in the folder as individual tabs.

@DGhost: The "open URL" key is ctrl-L, which puts the cursor in the location bar. They just split out the open file vs. open url functions. (which makes sense, since you can easily get a list of files, but a list of possible URLs is much more daunting )

see, problem with doing Ctrl-L is that whatever you type shows up in the drop down list. in addition to that, if you were to randomly click the mouse you loose focus on the address bar.

In, IE if you use Ctrl-O it *keeps* focus until you dismiss the dialog box, and whatever you type/paste in does *not* appear in the address bar.

edit: also, i generally stick with the idea that an internet browser is for that - even when doing web development, i rarely open local files from inside the browser.

Firefox + Linky, it's now my preferred way to view photo albums - remote or local.

Two odd little 'bugs' I've found with Firefox 0.9.1 in Windows (haven't played with it yet in Linux, since my prefered browser has been Galeon.. but that could change...)

Firstly, whenever I open either the Download manager or the Extensions manager, mouse movement becomes erratic and everything seems to chug... Don't know if it's the png it's displaying or what... but considering I have a 3.06ghz Pentium 4 with 512mb of Ram and a Parhelia which supposedly has some damned fast 2D (even if the 3D isn't so fast) then it's quite odd... I've had his problem since 0.8 (at least with the Download manager, I think the Extensions dialog changed... but I could be remembering wrong).

Second issue... everytime I load up Firefox, a little thing pops up by my systray that says there is a new version of Firefox, even though I have the latest... irritating.

Other than those two... I LOVE firefox, it rules! Especially now that I know about that google bar thing!

                            Wah! Wah!

In a perfect world... spammers would get caught, go to jail, and share a cell with many men who have enlarged their penises, taken Viagra and are looking for a new relationship.

                              I think that's a byproduct of you installing 0.9.1 over top of 0.9 w/o un-installing 0.9

I updated my 3 PC's from 0.9 to 0.9.1 and on one I forgot to un-install 0.9 and it does the same thing.
