  • Post your Opera pet annoyances! Also: New Version

The first time Opera copies Mozilla; I'm starting a "Post your Opera pet annoyances" thread

Also, a new Opera version is out, 7.52 (changelog). It fixes the last known security holes and some bugs. Be advised that it also overwrites your search.ini - if you have customized it, edit it (while Opera is not running) and change its version to 4 before upgrading; Opera will leave it alone then.

    Code:
    [Version]
    File Version=4
You can get the update here.

So, on to annoyances. The single biggest one for me are the error message popups. They annoy the hell out of me.

Still doesn't display web pages properly. So back to the recycle bin. I'll try the next version.

Doesn't have a secure erase of internet cache etc.

        1. Bloated (luckily you can customize it)
        2. Bloated (sorry had to repeat this one )
        3. Lower performance than previous versions (5.x, 6.x).
        4. Needs a better bookmark management.
        5. Stupid behaviour upon tab closing (I prefer the mozilla, and old Opera way) (luckily there's a workaround for it (Close page & switch to previous page)).
        6. The transfer window in Opera 7.x is bloody bloody annoying (I also want to view transfers in a separate window like in Opera 6.x)

I'm sure I can find more annoyances, but these will do.

Can't set the toolbar objects onto one line and hide the unused toolbars.

TP: Tools -> Delete private data. Deletes way mroe than just the cache. also, you can select "empty cache on exit" in the preferences.

Kei: Yes, it's a bit slower, though it has improved a lot over 7.0. And what kind of better bookmark management would you want? I'd like something like M2 does with mail (no folders, only filters). And I LOVE the nicknames!

What do you not like about tab behaviour?

<a href="opera:/button/Manage,%22transfers%22,,,%22Panel%20transfers%22"> A Transfer Window Button for you</a> (either drag the link to your favourite toolbar, or click it, then right click a toolbar -> customize toolbars -> buttons and fields -> my buttons)

Isochar, I'm not sure what you mean.

                Tab behavior:

When I open lots of pages from one page (let's say google search) I open them alle in the background and I like to go like this: go to the last link that I opened, close it, go automatically to the next one and so on, and then when it finish with all the opened pages it goes back to the initial search page.

                Opera 7.x does currently this:
                Open tabs:
                [1][2][3][4]

Closing [4], will result in [1] becoming active, etc.

Opera 6.x, 5.x, Mozilla does currently this:
                Open tabs:
                [1][2][3][4]

Closing [4], will result in [3] becoming active, etc.

It may be a small details for you but for me it's really annoying.

                    Ah Kei, now I understand

Unfortunately, I don't know any way to make it work like you want to - but you can drag the transfer window's tab to the taskbar and it becomes a separate window (unfortunately, when you click on the transfer window button again, opera just opens another transfer window).

Isochar: This is possible. Hit ctrl+f11 to hide the menu bar. <a href="opera:/button/Show%20popup%20menu,%20%22Browser%20Menu%20Bar%22" >here</a> is a menu button (I prefer it this small), and here are some window control buttons: <a href="opera:/button/Minimize%20page,,,,%20Caption%20Minimize">minimize </a>, <a href="opera:/button/Restore%20page,,,,%20Caption%20Restore">restore</a>, and <a href="opera:/button/Close%20page,,,,%20Caption%20Close">close</a>. Now all you have to do is to customize toolbars and disable all the bars you don't want and put all the desired buttons and fields into your main bar. <a href="opera:/button/Show%20popup%20menu,%20%22Internal%20Bookmark%20Fo lder%22,,,%20Panel%20Bookmarks">here</a> is a handy bookmarks dropdown button.

My search.ini can be found at http://www.fieras.de/search.ini - if you run Opera 7.52 you need to edit it to show version 4, as described in my first post.

Have to make the comment, we have a FF bugs thread, an Opera bugs thread...

We don't have an IE bugs thread, my personal opinion is, if we did, it would soon overtake Zok's game thread in size

Well when you'r e on 99% of the pc's in the world more bugs will spotted. IE bugs are more deaply rooted and less obivous but more severe due to MS misled/stupid thinking.

Considering it's age it doesn't do to badly and most pages are wriiten for it due the 99%.

I use netcaptor which has tabbed browsing secure erase and according to the makers doesn't suffer from the last few bugs that IE has got.

Not on my machines. When I close a tab the last tab that I had active before that one becomes active. This seems perfectly logical to me.
