    To me, it's about the ease of setting up, no cable sharing(each device get's it's own cable), and better air flow in the case. Not to mention you can run a much longer cable than IDE.

    And last, the Raptor drives are a performance improvement over PATA drives.

      You won't see any significant performance increases. That usually comes from the drives themselves. Personally, I'd be more concerned about responsiveness and overall speed than having the latest standard. Gotta love promise controllers.

        I'd have hopes for NCQ helping with performance while sharing and downloading lots of files. The way it is now, with my 180GXP set to silent, it is constantly accessing the disk for filesharing, effectively locking other programs (I sometimes have to wait for a MINUTE to get a minimized window to show!), while 90% of the time the CPU is idle. This may of course have to do with me having only 256 MB RAM and Opera being set to automatic RAM cache, which is notorious for reserving HUGE amounts of RAM.
