my Epson ate ink cartridges... would get about 20 pages of normal printing before I had to replace the cartridges... after going through way too many I decided to open the B*tch up... found the waste compartment saturated with my ink as it decided to clean itself everytime I turned around... tossed it into the trash and never looked back

which epson do u have greebe? i do lots of document printing for school (pages and pages of essay printing and done repeatedly because of continuous errors ) i don't have to replace my ink for at least half a year... and my dad also use it to duplicate his documents a lot. Maybe its different across different Epson printer platforms, but all i know so far is the CX5400 (C84) dones't eat my ink cartridges.

The only thing i'd worry about epson is their print head, since they never get replaced. however, when my CX5200's print head was messed up last year, costco did a full refund so i just picked up a brand new 5400 rofl... however, that was preventable, because i kept turning on my CX5200 overnight for days and left it idle... i think that's why the print head die (printhead overheat or something).

well, whatever you get, just remember not to turn it all on day on any printers doing nothing, even if its an HP when the head gets replaced all the time.

Anyway, there's not a single good reason for using inkjets when you need more than a cartridge a year.

Buy 2 cartridges and you've paid as much as for a new printer.

With lasers costing so damn cheap and toners lasting at least 6 times (3000 pages for low end ones) as long as you regular ink cartridge (500 pages, and becoming more of a 200 pages affair).

Heck you can have color lasers for $300 on sale...

Greebe, you're wrong. Epsons don't "eat" ink cartridges.
My Epson Stylus Photo 890 is a heavy drinker. It lives the cartridge, empty, ofcourse after a short period, but drinks up the ink very, very quick.
My son-in-law has a cheap HP printer (no multifunct.) and he prints a LOT of photo with the same cartridge. I am jealous.
The proportion is 1/4 bw. Epson/HP
Now I don't care if the non-original cartridge shorten the life of my printer. When it dies I'll buy a cheap non Epson multifunction printer.
The original HP inc cartridges are more expensiv, though, than others.

I haven't seen an affordable tabloid-sized multifunction printer either.
