    I actually contemplated that - heck, I know how to solder. Is it pretty straight-forward? I am assuming it's one of the 14 larger capacitors that's bad... but I can't quite tell what type of capacitor I need for replacement...

        You'll probably want to replace the whole series of filtering caps by the CPU socket.
        Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

            Indeed. That's one of the links that was given to me on the Abit forum. #4 and #7 apply to my situation.

            I thought about ordering the parts from him, but didn't want to have to wait another week to get parts. I've had this rig too long already...
