odd cd install hang up

i recently reinstalled w2k and started over with all other software to, it had been 2 years since a major clean-out. now when i attempt to install older games the Installshield(R) progress bar goes to 99% and quits...forever. the hardrive hasn't gone to sleep and all newer software installs fine. the games in question: links ls 2000, chessmaster 9000, and comanche 4 so far. any clues? i only have one box to try this on so can't experiment much.

it's a p4 2.8, gf6800 std or Parhelia 128, sb live, 512 ram and w2k. exactly the same as before i reinstalled everthing. i did use the wd setup cd to wipe the drive, partition and reformat.

problem apparently "solved".

my friend has a laptop with xp and sp2 installed, none of these programs worked there either, but it did install on his desktop box with just sp1.

furthur experiminatation determined that AVG's anti-virus software (Grisoft.com) was the culprit.

i disabled AVG and all worked ok. so, avg anti-virus doesn't like w2k sp4 or xp sp2.

Haven't installed SP2 but 2K SP4 is just fine with AVG.

Any common denominator with these progs? CD security mechanism?
