Just checked it...and this is interesting...

The browser was unable to promote itself to master browser. The computer that currently believes it is the master browser is KLINGER.

How do i change it so that Klinger is not the master browser for this PC?

It looks to me like this machine needs a setting changed - note that it has a problem with not being able to promote itself to master browser.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure exactly what that means.

Yes, always use full duplex if you can. Using half duplex is fine but you get collisions which slows down the data a tad. Full duplex allows for cleaner data transfer.

Something interesting I noticed is that you are possibly behind another switch/router. Maybe you are getting a NATed address? Maybe others in the same network are doign the same thign and there are duplicate addresses?

EDIT: Let me explain further. It's possible that two machines have the same address and some packets simply aren't making it back to the machine in question.

THAT WAS IT! Jammrock, you're my goddamn hero. He has dual NICs in his machine, and one of them was in fact a 3com. I set it to full duplex just like you said, and WHAMO, fast as lightening.

As soon as you mentioned the fact that it may be in Half Duplex, it started making sense to me...the fact that the file would actually be sent there completely (according to DOS or another PC on the network), but it wouldn't "notify" windows explorer of it sounded like a Half Duplex issue to me.

Kudos to you for that obscure bit of knowledge. I owe you one!

That's true, I would have discovered something was up had I tried another NIC, but he pointed me directly to the problem.

Either way, there's plenty of <3 to spread to you to.

I've seen that before. We had a network blip when a machine was coming online, so when it tried to talk to \\foo the first time, it couldn't. Rebooting the client fixed it.

OTOH, you wouldn't be touching PCs in anyway shape or form. It would strictly be Cisco networking gear
