  • I <3 Windows Networking (sarcasm)

So my boss has a share on his PC. We're in the same subnet. He's of course in the "Workgroup" workgroup, and I'm in one of a relevant name to our work.

So I need to acess the share. We both have the same PC, both running XP SP2. Our Windows Firewalls are both off.

if i PING BOSSPC, everyhing is fine.

if \\*IPOFBOSSPC* then it can't find it.

I can browse to it, and that's fine, but that's an odd problem, eh?

Are you sure that IPOFBOSSPC is correct ? I mean, if the bosspc is configured to use DHCP, it could have a different IP than you assume...

What happens if you traceroute to him?

Have you checked the ip configuration???

Go to start > run and type in cmd

        Then type ipconfig /all

If you like you can pipe it too a txt file and then print it out.

If it is the same just do a search for computers and it should find it. Then map a network drive to the shared area.

Of course it's even easier if you're in the same workgroup as then you just go to network neighbourhood and then click on view network computers then map the drive.

Yup, it's all the same, short of the IP.

1-make sure you both are on the same workgroup name
2-enable file a print sharing in the firewall exceptions tab, ( I knowyou disabled the firewall but bare with me here)
3-make sure he diesn't have a password set
4-you may want to check to see if you can find his PC using my network places / Entire network icon.
5-make sure you have both the same default gateway

                Regards,
                Elie
