I still have a bh6 in my loft acting as a smoothwall server.

I have an old bp6 dual celeron runing mandrake for aver a year, acting as a fileserver.

I haven't rebooted either intentionally in over a year.

The ASROCK K7S8XE is as stable a mainboard as I've had since the MSI-745 Ultra, P3B-F or BH6. I haven't had a single mainboard related issue since installing it and it works great with Win2K and WinXP of all builds & flavors.

Also impressive is that it can handle the bandwidth of the RT.X100 realtime editing board, which is saying something since that board really stresses a systems PCI bandwidth. The ASROCK takes it in stride.

So yeah, that was a thought I had too. And it seems to have proven correct. It's too bad too, because here I now can't use my Marvel G200. Yes, I was still running that baby. Worked great in Linux!

On the other hand I now can justify buying a new computer. I think I'm going to go 64bit! Before I always had the lingering idea of just fixing mine and also seeing what it was like to live without a computer. Which isn't as bad as one would think, but I did a lot less coding.

Good luck finding all those 64-bit drivers.

I've been checking out Gentoo's AMD64 Forum to see what can and can't be done.

I'm really eyeing the Gigabyte GA-K8N Ultra-9 since it has all the features I want besides a second PCIe x16 slot. Also liking Gigabyte's 6600 card because it is stocked passively cooled. The 256 MB version is only 16 bucks more than the 128 at NewEgg.

Any thoughts with those two guys?

            Now for RAM...

I have the PCIe passively cooled Gigabyte 6600GT (128Mb). Nice card. Does everything I want it to. Also has Win64 drivers which is nice.

DAMN those things were nice....so much so at one time I had 7 editing systems armed with those things and never had a problem with any of 'em.

That's saying something when it comes to editing systems because they really get hammered to the limit....maybe even more so than with gaming.

                Ahhhh....the good old days

In fact I still have one running in our son Eriks system (Erik's our 7 year old). Still runs like a top with minimal muss/fuss.

Remember overclocking a P3 700 to a gig in one of those. Lovely board.
