If she's going towards her PhD, I would suggest getting the Office 2003 vs the Works 7.0 bundle. Its probably what she's use to and what her peers use as well.Go Bunny GO!

Avoid the "Dell Dimension 2400" at all cost, that model is pure crap (no AGP port, etc).
