ATI Offers Graphics Cards with Quad Display Support

ATI Technologies, the world’s largest supplier of graphics processors, unveiled on Tuesday its new FireMV 2D workstation graphics accelerators, giving users in financial trading, process control and distribution control markets a wide range of low-profile options for their systems.

Available in both PCI and PCI Express configurations, both the FireMV 2200 and FireMV 2400 are low-profile graphics accelerators featuring 64MB and 256MB of memory. Quad monitor output support will be available with the FireMV 2400 while the FireMV 2200 supports dual monitor output and will be available for customers samples beginning in December.

“The FireMV line leverages ATI’s experience with low power high performance mobility devices to offer fanless solutions for increased product lifespan and reliability without compromise of quality,” the company said in its statement.

ATI now provides corporate customers with a complete range of ATI products for their day-to-day use, with the superior image quality and stability which has helped to make ATI the technology leader in graphics.

ATI’s FireMV products are supported by a WHQL unified driver, which is tested and certified for a wide range of professional 2D software packages, including Hummingbird Exceed and Citrix, ensuring system administration and upgrades are cost effective and simple. All FireMV products come with a three year warranty and unlimited direct access to a dedicated workstation technical support team.

ATI did not reveal pricing details of the FireMV products. The company also remained tight-lipped over the graphics processors used on the FireMV graphics cards.

It's taken them long enough. Still nVidia have had their Quadro's out for a while but they don't seemed to have made much impact on Matrox's multi-monitor sales.

Not quite yet, I'd think that most people who like multiple monitors will still go with Matrox.

I have three screens at the moment 9700Pro, 9200SE and I'm definately going to get a P, don't care how much slower the P is, (I'll just buy a gaming rig) Matrox got it right years ago with the G400.

I'm sure that ATI will NEVER make a card which will have a better picture quality than Matrox cards! Picture quality on PC monitor and external monitor/TV always was and IS 10000x better with Matrox cards.

Repeating: wake up people, ATI and NVIDIA makes cards for childrens, for gaming only... there is no card maked by these two companies which can be used for something serious.

Matrox is real leader yet and I hope it will be for a long time!

Whatever, fanboy. The other manufacturers are catching up on analog, and DVI eliminates Matrox's IQ advantage entirely.

Not to mention that I didn't specifically buy my 6800 GT for gaming... granted the 2D display on my CRT is no where near what it was on my Parhelia... but then again, the Parhelia linux drivers are crap compared to the nVidia drivers.... Pretty sad, since Linux was listed as "Supported" on the Parhelia since the first press release.

There have been Appian Ati powered multimonitor cards out for years now and they haven't dented Matrox share so far.

However Matrox will have to come out with PCIe card soon.

Another interesting aspect is rumours of XP release 2 before Longhorn and about backporting Aero interface to XP. This might create problems (DX9 would be required for 1st tier experience).

Well - personally I am looking forward to a price competitive single-card solution that can do 3 independent screens. I am fairly convinced that the Matrox QID would suit me well, but given the price I'll battle onward with the Parhelia in stretched mode.

If ATI takes the time to get their 2D right I'll be lining up for one which would make the first non Matrox card for me in 10 years. When I last compared a 9600SE to my G450 the G450 was the clear winner by a country mile on my CRT's

..as Wombat says however... with DVI most quality issues go right out the window.

I'm not concerned about ATI's hardware quality. Ever since the Rage128 they've been at least on par with most of their competitors, and the Radeon 3s (i.e. 9500-9800) were honestly terrific. But it's always about the drivers with ATI. What magical fun can we expect from these would-be gurus of 2D quality? Here are some suggestions.

- The re-emergence of that horrid bug that showed up in two different lines of cards where certain video formats would become corrupted and pink

- The rendering of your entire desktop as a swirling miasma of pixel corruption with the odd flash of "CANADA RULES!" in the background

- A hidden easter egg where you can see a moose tinkling on the Parhelia logo for about 8/10ths of a second before your entire system bluescreens and your power supply catches fire

My mind boggles at the possibilities... and yes, this was a joke. What isn't a joke is that I'm more than somewhat interested in picking up a Parhelia. Anyone want to make a deal?
