    Phoned up HP support, because a CD-rom was faulty, spoke to a nice Isish lady, answered a few questions, gave her the serial number. The part arrived the next morning via UPS and on the box underneath the shipping label was the return shipping label.

    Wow that was so painless.

    I wonder if more niggling faults are so easy to resolve, like system instability.

    Yeah, HP support is awesome for warranty stuff. I think that's something they inherited from Compaq. I've only dealt with them for business related stuff, but as long as you have a valid serial number, they take good care of you.
