They're a spot better than that here. Not a ton of Americans shop at Aldi's because they have to bag their own groceries and pay for their bags (most US stores provide bags and bagging service to patrons, don't know how that is in other MURC countries).

There are 3 checkout lanes in our Aldi's and I'm never in line (queue) for more than 5-10 minutes, which is average for the US wait. They are also very clean and pretty good quality products.

Bagging service... wow. This wouldn't be possible here. Wages are too high, and people would feel stupid if they let others bag their stuff.

Well normally at least here out on the East coast either the cashier bags it for you or they have kids doing fund raising or people with downs syndrome or the like doing it.
Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

See, ppl here are either too expensive to pay or on state welfare...

If the minds that govern us would just realize that overtaxing some to give to others so they don't have to do anything isn't the brightest of ideas...

Last time a party in brittain tried to say that they got likened to nazi's - funny thing is i thought we faught a pretty bitter cold war just to prove that capitalism worked best, and now it seems the populous are getting into, screw the rich and give to me, why shoudl they have more than me, commy type attitudes - problem is we are in a pay me to do nothing society here in the UK, theres no domestic industry left to speak of and peoaple are either on state welfare, working for the government or working for foreign multinations, well 80% of working people anyway. The government here has even pushed people onto disability allowance in old industrial cities(where they can get away with it by claiming they are ill through old industrial practices) to the point where we have 2.75 million on disability allowance, adn 1 million on jobseekers allowance - so they can say, Look there are less people seeking work.

Mind you i would say that, cos i want to go get myself a great pot of cash and i want to keep it all, for that simple fact i say long live the USA and the American Dream.

Bit off topic for gen hardware software, i do apologise.

@ borat: the big problem is that politicians (that are usually not economists) don't understand (or plainly ignore) is that you can only be generous when you have money to do so - that's got to be common sense...

Meaning: you can have ppl on welfare during an economic upturn (coffers full). When it's a downturn (coffers empty), ppl should work to buy their own bread.

The trick is of course that during an upturn there is generally more work for everyone while during a downturn there's less work, so you need to be creative about where to create employment... (always a good time to clean up the place anyway...)

Went to a couple of Aldi's here in the Detroit area.

They look like the bastard child of Big Lot and Sav-a-Lot, but half the size and selection of either. Compared to our Meijer stores they're wimpy, being about the size of the vegetable aisle

In the US, people don't like going to stores where they have to bag their own goods.

                              Detroit plaza?

There is the Detroit Plaza Hotel (actually in suburban Southfield) then there is Detroit Plaza Building (a state office building) and the the "Detroit plaza", an area adjacent to the Ambassador Bridge (between Detroit and Windsor, Ontario) that is used for terminals etc.

Which do you mean, or are you referring to something else?

                                OT/

Ah, it was Hart Plaza. Went Movement Festival earlier this year. Just wondring what the place gets used for normally. Detroit is a crazy city, scary and deserted in parts, steam coming out of the roads and everything. Had a good time. Swear the taxi driver took the long route once he found out we were from UK.

Coney Island ... Quick service though.
