Actually with Ontrack you set the bios to NONE, as in no drive connected. Somehow the software detects and configures the drive. No idea how it works.
Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. Bastard coated bastards with bastard filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive, bubble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine. -- Dr. Perry Cox
what motherboard Debbie? Often you can download a bios update that increases the limit to 127gb. If none is available, the people at wimsbios.com may be able to make one for you.
What Motherboard...... hehehehehe A grand, grand mother you mean !! Shuttle Spacewalker, HOT-661V, recid VIA Chipset.
However, I found a Raid controller going cheap (used only 5 hrs. only $10) . Silicon Image AIL0680 REV E, whatever it is and it appears to be working fine.
I never used a raid controller before and from what I can see, at the very begining of booting there is a prompt asking you if you want to go into the Raid setup. I have'nt been there yet.
I am not sure about this, It appears that I still have to use a HDD on IDE 1 (master) to boot and enter the OS since the drives are only recognized by the OS.
I have also noticed that the drive has been automatically partitioned to the BOBO accepted capacity but at least I can use all the HDD capacity.
I better stop here now. Will be asking some questions later, perhaps.
Debbie
PS.
What the hell are you doing with an old computer ? you may ask.
Well, I have just retired and it's a good escuse to kill some time trying to revive an old machine.
Leaving it 24 hours-a-day on the internet with the least electricity bill possible. Downloading is equally fast as when I'm using my P4, 2.5GHz machine.
I'd recommend an add-in ATA100/133 or SATA card. They're cheap. A h/w soln is MUCH better than any s/w overlay soln. The problem with the overlay s/w is that if it screws up/crashes, it can hose your data on the disk. I've had the s/w soln wig out on me before. Plus, the add-in ATA100/133 (or SATA) controller will give you the added benefit of much better speed performance than the old IDE connection on an old mobo.
I second others' motions on this thread for a h/w soln.
