I used to use Vi years ago. It's was crap then and is still crap today. Time to get in the modern world.

Steve, that's bollocks. Did you ever edit an exisiting file with copy con?

            I have it too...
Perhaps they added it in SP2?

Vi does offer some functionality no other editor has.

If you know what your doing with vi it is very powerfull, so what do use to edit files in a linux console when the gui is not running?
Hell, I still even use vi when the gui is running, but I must admit if you don't know enough commands it will seem less than functional.

Why remove edlin, less than a k or two of code, and with functionality that can still pull you out of a deep pit on occasion.
                (very,very occasionally...but still)

in the case of the version of XP I am running it is a matter of having to rewrite edlin so that it could run. yes, it may be only a few K but it would effectively require rewriting it to be a full Win32 (or higher) app in order to make it work. not worth it.

That's one of the reasons to use gvim. http://www.vim.org/
