  • XP2800+ Barton temps

OK...everyone and their brother has an opinion on just how hot these should run.

Since I replaced the fan on my Parhelia, my CPU fan is now the noisiest thing in my rig. The CPUfan is an adjustable fan (3k rpm, 4.2k rpm or 5.5k rpm with the 3-way switch it came with).
I was running it on the middle setting, which kept the CPU around 40c during desktop use, 43-45c during gaming.
I have turned it down to the lower (noticably quieter) setting, and it's now running 43-45c on the desktop, 48-50c with games.
AMD states 85c as the max operating temp.

So what temps do your similar rigs run at, and do you think I'm pushing my luck running at 50c??

Should still be fine, my brother runs a 2800+ with a ThermalTake volcano 9 cooler, fan set to ~3500rpm. Idle temps are around 42C, load up to 48C.
Guess it's ok (stable) as long as it doesn't go over 60C.

50c should be fine as long as you don't do any overclocking. While AMD does state the max temp at 85c, I also agree with Admiral that it should be kept under 60C as an absolute max.
Personally I prefer 50c as a hard upper limit for my processors, and I try to target 40c since I overclock.

I've got an XP2500+ o/c to 3200+ with watercooling, and temps are in the low 30s idle and upper 30s when playing games.

        you don't do any overcocking.

If you overcock, please refrain from telling us anything about it!

LOL. Yeah, just stick to the standard cock speed. Or if you prefer, undercock it.

I think my rig runs in the low 40s when idling and high 40s when crunching away at CPDN. Hope that gives you another sample data point.

My mobile XP 2600+ (@ 2.2 GHz, 1.5 vCore) runs ~41 C idling and high 40 to maybe 50 during gaming. Thats with an SLK900 and Enermax 92mm @ 2100 RPM. Havent had any stability problems thus far, i consider 54-55 C the max temp i`d allow for my CPU.

Sounds fine, IMO. A 50C load temp isn't that high, especially if you don't overclock.

I also have a mobile XP 2600+. It's running at 2.2GHz with 1.575Vcore. I'd go lower on the Vcore but that's the lowest my A7N8X will do without mods. It idles around 39C - 42C depending on ambient. Load temps are usually around 47C - 50C. I'm using a Zalman 7000AlCu with the fan at 5.5V (about 1550RPM).

Well, thanks for all the input. It's been running fine at these temps, so I'll go with it as is.
If I get the urge to o/c, I can always crank the fan up....
