It appears to happen on large files exeeding 1.5Gb. So far it appears to be from just one server but have'nt tried elsewhere. I am not deeply concerned about the issue since i hardly ever require files of that size. I just wanted to know if this happens normally.

    No, it’s not "normal".

If the files are on a FTP server have you tried using a real FTP program?

You could post a link so we could test if its serverside problem.

I assume you meant that your Internet Provider support monkey's assured you that they don’t have any problems?

In that case, DON’T BELIEVE THEM!!

They never admit fault on their side until the fault affects over 50% of their customers in your area

      Technoid,
Thanks very much for your help.

As I said earlyer I have (and you pehaps know from my theads at the DV forum) reasonable knowledge about video editing and general hardware and software but at intenet problems I still have far to go. If I ever get there (61 on Jan.)

I have passed the site to my brother-in-law, in Canada and he never mentioned having problems. I also included the site in a thread on the Desktop Video Forum. This site has old PD. movies on it .

I'm sure you'll find your way from here:

Tomorrow, an engeneer from my ISP will also be contacting me about it.

I quite agree with you that the ISP knows about the problem but will not do anyting about it untill they are "shaken up"

I know for sure that they restrict the band width on P to P sites
      yet the do'nt admit it.

I have been thinking that perhaps I could go arround it by segmentation, but then I am not aware of any software that can do that.

Changing the ISP is also being considered but I am not sure if the restriction is comming from them or from Data Stream which supplies all the ISPs over here.

Thanks again for you interest. People like your type keep these forums alive and respected.

Get right used to do the segmented donload last time I used it?(you have to maunaly enable it in the option/configuration.

It might be a bug with getright dealing with large files? If it is I would recomend using a good ftp program.

        Try filezilla at
Download FileZilla® for free. A fast cross-platform FTP client. Thanks ...........man .
I've tried it with GetGight. The last version has a vry good improvement over the oher versions.
No large files it shows you the size of the file and the remaining time. I never got those when downloading very large files with the other versions.
I also have been trying segmentation but it appeares that it will only work if the site has several mirrors. I have also tried Save target as....... but I had worse results.

What puzzles me is the fact that just for a couple of days I have been having no problems then back to "square one".

iirc... You should find that getright will download three simultaneous streams before asking you for another mirror. I'd try FileZilla...

getright will handle up to 4 streams per server, but that will need to be set.

My ISP admit that they have put up band width restrictions on FTP sites. However that is HTTP. They also have tried to download from their place but could only download at 16k/sec., on an open bandwith of 10Gb/sec.
All I want now is a confirmaion from a third person that the site is really slow.

if you mean the movie site you linked to I've just tested it and it was not slow at all.

                    Thanks Tech.,

Did you try on a large download, over 2Gb and it was OK?

If in the affermative, then somthing is shurely wrong with my ISP and will be having a "good" word with the engeneer.

I had no problems for just 2 days, but it only lasted that long then it went back to very slow or no connection at all.

I get a "Disconnected from server" message in GetRight and it stops there. Segmenting would help a little but just immagin downloading 3Gb @ 1k/sec or less.

Thank you, and all the rest for your help.

                        done some more testing:

all those movies are on ftp and using an ftp program like filezilla i have no proplems, mozilla or ie gets weird problems , like displaying the wrong size etc etc

so my solution is to use an ftp program

                          Tech.,

That's exactly it ! That site is FTP and as I pionted out earler Data Stream, which is the local infrastructure provider (controler), is suppressing FTP sites to an extent that it makes it impossible to download large files.
This is at least what I have been told.

Thanks for your concern and assistance.
                          Thank you all.

try setting up a ftp server on your end on some port that's not traffic-shaped and FXP the stuff. Often that gets around any speed restrictions imposed by the isp.
