Viewsonic vp171

My old monitor is almost broken. Need a new one. The specs for the viewsonic vp171 seemed nice. For the US version only? 8ms response and 16.7m colors.
You know anything about this monitor and why it is rated 16ms on the european website?

Probably because these ratings are almost completely random. They should just write "quick response" and be done with it, that way they wouldn't have to resort to lying.

I have two VP171b's that I bought almost a year ago... they were rated at 16ms IIRC, and I was wondering why they are reintroducing the same model with an 8ms reponse time...

i dunno, but I do love the LCD's. gorgeous.

I know that you can't trust the response ratings, but it would seem logical that if viewsonic has one 8ms and one 16ms the 8ms would be faster.

It sounds like a nice monitor anyway. But how is the color depth? I don't want a fast 16.2m color monitor... I want everything good

I have 3 vp191b's, 3 vg181b's & a N3000w. Viewsonic has been good for me & I recommend them to all my friends. (they have, so far: vg900b, vg171b, VG710b, vp201s & others)(ZERO dead pixels so far)
Ultimately it depends on what your doing. If you need ultra color depth, CRT's are still the way to go. They do consume a lot more power compared to LCD.
I guess I'm a Viewsonic freak. One thing for sure, I can rely on the quality, sight unseen. ( it's hard to find a store locally where I can preview a Viewsonic monitor, prior to purchase )
Your video card can also affect your color depth.

Viewsonic just re-released their VP171b with 8ms panels, at least here in singapore, the refreshed LCDs were the ones that were sold just prior to Christmas... funny thing they dropped the price as well (Singapore $599 from about $799 a couple of months back). I love viewsonic as well and used PS775 crt till it died. currently on a samsung crt, till i get myself a new job. The next LCD i buy would be 20" LCD pro from Viewsonic or i can hope at least

The VP171-2 is 6-bit plus 2-bits for FRC (Frame Rate Control), gives 16.2M colours….. very close to 24-bit colour.
