Well Apple says extra DIMMs can only be added by an Apple-certified service technician, which basically just means you void your warranty if you do otherwise. I'm sure if an Apple blah blah technician can do it, so can anyone with some technical/computer hardware know-how.

I'm planning on picking one of these up when Tiger comes out.

Not bad for $479 with the student discount.

Current Athlon 64 machine for Windows CAD work. Everything else under OSX.

Currently running a Linux desktop and yearning for a UNIX desktop with less required constant tweaking...

Well, it won't take long for detailed info on how to disassemble to surface on http://www.kodawarisan.com/

They already have a picture of it open, with an ordinary DIMM inside, the only problem will be GETTING inside.

But if you look around on that site, you should find they disassemble technology to find out what's inside (I don't know any japanese though).

They haven't dissasembled the mac mini yet.
It's not available to purchase here until the 29th.
If anybody actually has any at this point, it's only apple themselves.

Here's some more information on the mini. Pay attention to the bit about memory upgrades:
Apple "does not recommend" that users upgrade the memory themselves - you're supposed to have a service provider do it if you want to add more after purchase - but doing it yourself does not void the warranty unless you damage something. A booth person told me the memory slot is easily accessible once you get the case open.

Is the student discount only valid for American and/or Canadian students?

I'm gonna tell my mom about that thing, sounds a hell of a lot better than the crappy HP Pavilon she's got now.

I did, but the website store itself is basically just for the US anyway, I was just wondering if any of the Scandinavians or the Brits on this forum knew otherwise...
