I've owned 2 Plextors and use 1 at work. All of them have always worked flawlessly. My old 8X still works perfectly, and I've had that for around 4+ years and burned thousands of CDs off it.

My new PX712A (didn't have budget for the 716A) has worked perfectly, too.

Well, I received my Plextor PX-716SA yesterday, and have not been able to get it to work under linux. See my thread I just started, http://forums.murc.ws/showthread.php?s=&threadid=51487

I still have my old 12/10/32S drive, and I've had that forever. It works great in linux, but I would like to have the dvd burner working....

BTW, the 712's firmware is much more mature than the 716, meaning better burn results etc.; the 716 will get there eventually, but at the moment, the 712 is a better drive overall.

By the way, I found the fix for the SATA drive under linux. Two kernel compiles later....

Well, the first time fixed the drive, but I decided to put in bootsplash again, and that messed up hald, which messed up gnome, so I had to recompile again....
