Fastest and most frequent updates and finds stuff that Norton etc. does not find!

Expensive and quite resource hungry but othervise it works fine!

You can find a 30day trial version over here http://www.f-secure.com/download-purchase/list.shtml

            Get NAV with Norton Pro.
If you have an old disk* you can get a copy free a couple of different times each year (usually in the fall) by combining sales, rebates, and upgrade rebates.
The last time I paid net of anything for Norton was maybe 6 years ago.

            * or just the cover off of an old manual.

Ahh. going the ecological route eh?

Well, don't bother with McAffee then. It's even worse.

                  Awesome !

Thanx a lot for your effort Gurm ...

Since you're already that much into it, could you be so kind and have a look at this free antivirus app ?

I use it for a few years now and found it to be cool on me, but considering the pro and cons you found in all those other releases, you might find something in freeav as well that either makes or breaks it.

No. He made a big effort in comparing COMPARISONS of antivirus programs. He admits in about the 4th or 5th post down that all the charts he uses are 1-2 years old. YEARS!

He also makes NO mention of how well the program actually runs. He focuses exclusively on how well it catches viruses. This is critically flawed, because McAfee 7 (which he ranked as BEST) caught 100% of viruses... but corrupted your system files.

Overall I rank his comparison... 0/10. Sorry.

So Gurm, do you possibly have any spare time to spend for looking into the FreeAV that I'm using ?

It looks decent. However, the cracks on Astalavista for the pro version are lagging 4 revisions behind (v6 is out now, v2 is what they have cracks for). So that's likely an indicator of how well-received the pro version is. But I'll try out the free one.

                          --------------------------

                          AVG:

I just fired up AVG Professional again and I have to say - it's MUCH better than the free version. I swear to God they just enable NOPs in the free version to make the pro seem better or something. Also, any doubts anyone has about whether it catches everything or not... it seems to scan more thoroughly if you tell it to scan a particular folder. I'm not sure why a "complete scan" turned up a couple things, but then rescanning my entire "sources" folder turned up a dozen more. I'll have to look into that.

                          --------------------------

I registered at that other site, and responded to their article. Anyone who wants to can check it out.

I've tried McAfee, NAV, BitDefender and PC-cillin. I find all of them but McAfee are good. I found this review site that compares the most famous AV programmes side by side (if no one has mentioned it yet):

NAV Corporate. I liked AVG, but just does not catch everything like NAV does.
